The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday affirmed that his Government is carrying out consultations to prepare a new national curriculum. The name of this consultation is "Your voice for a better school," which will promote new citizenship with respect for human rights, the environment, and diversity.

His remarks were made in the Leaders Roundtable within the Transforming Education Summit held within the framework of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

The Head of State emphasized that Peru has made significant progress on the recovery of learning, the return of students to in-person schooling due to the effectiveness of vaccination, and the decentralization of the education service.

Mr. Castillo underscored that COVID-19 has triggered one of the greatest education crises in the world's history; for this reason, he reiterated that the recovery of learning is essential.

"It is estimated that by the end of this year, 80% of the population over 12 will receive a third dose of the vaccine, while 80% of children between 5 and 12 years of age will receive a second dose," the dignitary remarked.

Additionally, he said his Government has given more than 36,000 scholarships to low-income young people who have high academic performance in order for them to study both in Peru and abroad.

"We are aware that today's world needs competitive professionals who are able to adapt to new challenges. Therefore, we seek to strengthen human capital as a priority of the Peruvian State," the top official pointed out.

The Peruvian President participated in this roundtable together with Education Minister Rosendo Serna.
