President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra affirmed today that her government is fulfilling its commitment to double the reach of the Beca 18 scholarships program and affirmed that the number will reach 50,000 beneficiaries by the end of her term in July 2026.
She recalled that when she took office in December 2022, only 5,000 Beca 18 beneficiaries were awarded per year, an insufficient number to positively transform the opportunities for young people, which is why a number never seen before was set.
“We are committed to youth because it is the only guarantee of transforming society and turning Peru into a great nation that competes globally, because talent is in the veins of our young people,” she stated.
In this regard, she emphasized that she will continue working until the last minute of her term, in order to continue completing more projects such as schools, hospitals, bridges, and paved roads throughout the country.
She explained that 2025 is a pre-election year, but that does not impede or hinder her from continuing to carry out projects, following her mother's example and advice to never give up in the face of adversity.
"The enemies of the homeland have made my life miserable, those who believed we could not advance. From December 7th until now, every day, but here I am strong and dignified, working with my head held high and my heart open for all Peruvians because we believe in Peru and its talent," she stated.
President Boluarte also urged the scholarship recipients to never give up and always strive for the progress of their families and the country.
Likewise, the president said she hopes the next president of Peru will increase the number of Beca 18 scholarships beneficiaries in the next five years.
