The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday affirmed that her administration works tirelessly to provide security to all Peruvian citizens, in order to protect them from the illicit actions of criminal gangs.

"The safety of all Peruvians is our responsibility, and we are committed to working tirelessly so that this objective is met," she expressed.

The Head of State recalled that at the beginning of her term in office she had found a PNP "with unaddressed gaps and many limitations" —both in infrastructure and equipment— "a situation that we have been facing since the first moment and today is one of the days."

"We do not sit idly by, because we are committed to enhancing the operational capacity of our police so that it and all of us can jointly confront organized crime and delinquency for the tranquility of Peruvians," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

"We cannot demand compliance from the police if we don't give them the necessary tools," she added.

In that sense, the top official highlighted the delivery of 150 new patrol cars under the renting modality, intended for citizen security in Lima and Callao, which are part of a total group of 500 units that will be delivered to the Peruvian National Police.

"We are a government that honors its commitments (...) the process for the police to have these new units was carried out in a transparent manner, without corruption. On December 7, our administration will complete one year in office, and there is no investigation file at the Public Ministry linked to corruption acts," she remarked.

Progress

The President underscored that concrete steps have been taken in the fight against citizen insecurity, pointing out that so far this year more than 100,000 criminal gangs have been dismantled and 30 El Tren de Aragua (The Aragua Train) ringleaders have been brought to justice.

"We continue to strengthen the anti-drug fight; more than 4,000 police operations have been carried out, and 96 criminal organizations linked to illicit drug trafficking have been dismantled, thus seizing 47,304 kg. of drugs and eradicating more than 21,000 hectares of coca leaves," she specified.

The top official added that, concerning mobile phone theft, more than 10,000 of said devices were seized nationwide thanks to 124 operations and 29 mega-operations carried out against illicit markets.

Regarding the districts declared in state of emergency in Lima and Sullana (Piura region), more than 200 criminal gangs were dismantled, 676 wanted people were arrested, and 343 foreigners were held for violating the Immigration Law.

"For 2024, allocating S/62 million (about US$16.6 million) to strengthen citizen security is projected, thus enhancing crime and violence prevention services. I ask the population to trust its police and the actions to seek tranquility," she concluded.
