President Boluarte calls for reflection to work together for sake of Peru

17:52 | Lima, Jan. 9.

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Monday called on Peruvians to reflect so as to work together for the sake of the country and to address the needs of the neglected regions.

"I call on brothers and sisters to reflect, let us work together for our homeland, let us work united in one heart to seek and meet the needs of unserved regions," the Head of State said.

"The only thing that Dina Boluarte wants is to pay attention to the south of the country, which surely has not been paid attention to for years ( ...) but also to the center and north," she added.

The remarks were made after opening the 132nd session of the National Agreement at the Government Palace in Lima.

The meeting started with a minute of silence for the people who died during the social mobilizations that have taken place in different parts of the country.

The Head of State stressed that everything can be achieved in peace and order, but it becomes complicated and difficult in the midst of violence and chaos.

Regarding the claims of some sectors, the country's top official underlined that she has already done the only thing that she could do, that is to present a bill to bring general elections forward, which, she said, is awaiting a second vote in Parliament.

In this regard, the President of the Republic clarified that she cannot decide on the Constituent Assembly or the freedom of former President Pedro Castillo, whose case is under judicial review.
