The Presidency of the Republic on Thursday greeted the Peruvian Navy for its 199th anniversary, recalling the patriotism, heroism, and courage of Rear-Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario, its leading figure.

"He is an example of integrity and commitment to Peru," reads a post on Twitter.

The publication includes a picture of the Grau Room at the Government Palace, which features a photograph of Miguel Grau, who in 2000 was recognized as the "Peruvian of the Millennium" by popular vote.

Today, October 8, Peru celebrates the 199th anniversary of the Peruvian Navy and the 141st anniversary of the Naval Battle of Angamos.

For this reason, a minute of silence in memory of the so-called "Knight of the Seas" was held at 9:50 a.m., the exact time when he attained immortality on October 8, 1879.
