PM: Peru to have 75 medical oxygen plants by year-end

14:35 | Lima, Aug. 11.

Peru will have 75 medical oxygen generating plants by the end of 2020, Prime Minister Walter Martos affirmed on Tuesday.

According to the Cabinet chief, 109.32 tons of oxygen per day have been acquired to date, thus covering 90% of the national deficit until September this year.

Likewise, arrangements are being made to acquire 116 tons per day from October to December.

Moreover, the acquisition or maintenance of 19 oxygen plants —to be completed this year— is underway, as well as other 29 plants from financing of regional governments.

In this respect, Martos highlighted the support of the private sector, which has provided 14 medical oxygen production plants to equip hospitals in Loreto, Tacna, Cusco, Lima, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Arequipa, Apurimac and Ancash regions.

Furthermore, he noted the donation of 10 additional plants for the supply of oxygen at temporary health care facilities located in Piura, Lambayeque, Ancash, Lima and Junin regions.

In accordance with Article 130 of the Constitution, the President of the Council of Ministers must attend Congress —joined by his Cabinet— to present the Government's general policy and the principal measures pursued by the Executive Branch.
