Peru commemorates today the 196th anniversary of its Independence from Spain.
The activities marking this special day began early on Friday with the deployment of police officers and soldiers around Lima's Main Square and Congress headquarters.
In this sense, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski attended Solemn Mass and Te Deum celebrated by Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima.
At the site, the Head of State was joined by wife Nancy Lange.
State ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, as well as high-ranking military and police officers also attended the religious ceremony.
The Te Deum is an early Christian hymn of praise. The title is taken from its opening Latin words, rendered literally as "Thee, O God, we praise."
