New Peruvian leader Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, 77, faces the greatest challenge of his political career as he takes office, setting the course of Peru’s bicentennial.

PPK, as he is known to many Peruvians, is a veteran economist and politician. He has served the State and held different positions in the government.

Likewise, he is known for his interest in sports, music and travel, and is both a family man and pet lover.

Pictures above depict the different aspects of his life before becoming the successor to outgoing President Ollanta Humala for the 2016-2021 term.

Mr. Kuczynski is the son of a German doctor (his father), who was of Jewish-Polish descent, and a Swiss-French teacher (his mother).

He was raised in Iquitos and Puno as a child, and explored the country as he became older.
