Peruvian and foreign citizens, who are at least 50 years old and have already received the third dose against COVID-19 five months ago, must go to any vaccination center or health facility to receive the corresponding fourth dose, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) confirmed on Friday.

As is known, the administration of a fourth dose was only allowed for people over 70 years of age, health personnel, and immunosuppressed citizens. However, it was necessary to expand this age range.

Now, more than 8 million people will be allowed to renew their protection against SARS-CoV-2, according to data from the information platform known as National Single Health Data Repository (Reunis).

The decision of Minsa to administer a fourth dose to this new group was made based on the recommendations of the Committee of Experts on Immunizations.

It is similar to that adopted by health entities in other countries such as the United States' Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to information presented by Minsa's National Health Institute (INS).

It is important to note that Peru is carrying out one of the widest vaccination processes against COVID-19 in South America, ranking third in the region in terms of the percentage of population protected against coronavirus.

For this reason, the population is recommended to continue attending massively vaccination centers and health establishments so as to become protected against COVID-19 and face the pandemic.
