A group of 10 students from Peru's Universidad Privada del Norte (UPN) will travel to the U.S. city of Atlanta in order to be trained by experts at international news outlet CNN's headquarters, thanks to an agreement signed by both institutions.

According to UPN's Communications Faculty Dean Patricia Sanchez, the objective of this partnership with CNN is for students to make contact with leading international experts at one of the world's most renowned news organizations.

"The goal is for them (students) to improve their skills in digital content and transmedia management, thus becoming world-class professionals," the officer expressed.

"As a university, one of our pillars is to offer internationalization in our academic programs," she added.

The agreement —signed by CNN and UPN— also includes quarterly coordination meetings with experts from each area to provide experience in content elaboration and news handling, as well as to develop writing and storytelling skills on diverse information platforms, among others.

"UPN, in accordance with this alliance, is the only educational institution in the country (Peru) that can use CNN contents for learning-teaching processes, as well as for the media we manage (…)," the university representative said.

Likewise, CNN maintains alliances with diverse learning centers based in the United States, Europe, Asia, and —most recently— Latin America.

"We have the intention to work closely with universities and their students. Not only to provide them with content and access to the tools used in the professional world, but also to give them a great opportunity to listen to students' ideas and learn from them," CNN Director of Content Sales for Latin America Sebastian Laver indicated.

Remarks were made during a conference at UPN headquarters.
