The Peruvian restaurant known as "Central" owned by local chef Virgilio Martinez has been recognized as the 4th best in the world according to the World's 50 Best Restaurants list elaborated by the British Restaurant Magazine.

"Central" is ranked ahead of Eleven Madison Park (United States), Mugaritz (Spain) and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (England).

The Peruvian spot ousted the Brazilian restaurant D.O.M., run by the famous chef Alex Atala, who visited Peru a couple years ago in the framework of the Peruvian gastronomic fair known as Mistura. This restaurant went down to the 9th position.

Peruvian gastronomy also was recognized. This is the first time the famed Nikkei food restaurant "Maido" led by his famous chef Mitsuharu Tsumura "Misha" was included in the list, being ranked 44th. Gaston Acurio's "Astrid y Gaston" restaurant is placed 14th.

The Spanish El Celler de Can Roca restaurant by the Roca brothers was the overall winner. The 2nd place was claimed by Osteria Francescana (Italy), while the 3rd one by Noma, from Denmark.

The 5th was obtained by Eleven Madison Park, which also received the title of the best North American restaurant.
