In 30 days a criminal accusation against former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006) may be filed over the alleged bribe received for the awarding of the South Interoceanic Highway, Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group Coordinator Rafael Vela has informed.

According to the magistrate, the Prosecutor's Office will be ready to complete this investigation following the statements made on Thursday by former Odebrecht consortium proxy during the Interoceanic bidding process, Luis Alberto Meneses Weyll, and those to be provided by former Odebrecht Superintendent in Peru Jorge Barata this Friday.

"We will proceed, within a period of no longer than 30 days, to file the corresponding accusation and that, in turn, will strengthen the
extradition of former President Alejandro Toledo," he expressed.

As is known,
Toledo —who was residing in the State of California— is currently in a U.S. jail, while he faces an extradition process.

The 30-day deadline is due to the fact that the special team must wait for the statements issued by the witnesses over the current days in Brazil to be sent to Lima through the International Cooperation Unit.

Likewise, the prosecutor said that the attorneys of the people under investigation will also participate in the session aimed at collecting the statements to be made by former Odebrecht representative in Peru, Jorge Barata.

Within the framework of effective collaboration, Barata will testify on the illicit payments made at the end of Alejandro Toledo's government (2001-2006) and the beginning of former President Alan Garcia's administration (2006-2011).
