Peruvian President to attend Santos inauguration on Aug. 7

Peru’s President Ollanta Humala Tasso is set to attend the inauguration ceremony for his counterpart from Colombia Juan Manuel Santos on August 7th, Peruvian Foreign Ministry (MRE) reported Tuesday.

Upon the invitation of the Colombian government, the head of Peru’s Administration along with an especial entourage will arrive to the nation’s capital Bogota to be present for the Santos' formal induction into office.

According to the Colombian Foreign Office, the event featuring the transfer of power of the incoming President re-elect will be attended by more than 70 special envoys from different countries.

Among other South American leaders to take part of the official inauguration are Enrique Peña Nieto, from Mexico; Rafael Correa, from Ecuador; Otto Perez Molina, from Guatemala; Juan Orlando Hernandez, from Honduras, and Juan Carlos Vera, from Panama.

“King Juan Carlos of Spain will attend the inauguration as he wants to share time with the several head of States of Ibero-America,” said Maria Angela Holguin, Colombia’s Foreign Minister. 

President Santos was re-elected for a second term in office with more than 50 percent of the vote in June this year.

Peru-Colombia relations enjoy a pattern of mutually beneficial cooperation that covers multiple dimensions and broad areas at various levels covering agriculture, infrastructure and education among others.

The Ollanta Humala administration's policy to further promote the comprehensive and strategic partnership with Colombia remains in the spirit of sincere friendship, equality, mutual benefit and common development.
