El Comendador de Caraveli, a pisco produced in the Peruvian city of Arequipa, was awarded Silver Medal at the 16th edition of Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2009, the most prestigious wine and spirits competition held on April 25-27 in the city of Valencia, Spain.

This contest was established in 1994, and gathers the best international wines and spirit experts, who analyze and taste over 6,000 products from around the world.

A total of 250 experts from four continents gathered to blind taste, and compare the 6289 wines and spirits participating in the competition.

54 producing countries competed at this year's Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, with Egypt, Cyprus, and South Korea being some of the new nations represented.

El Comendador de Caraveli is produced by the Pisco and Wines Producers Association of Caraveli, an organization comprised of 17 small vine producers from the province of Caraveli in Arequipa region, southern Peru.

It is worth mentioning that in 2008, El Comendador de Caraveli was also awarded the "Champion Category Spirit - Grape", during the third edition of the Mediterranean Wine & Spirit Challenge - Terravino 2008, held from November 9 and 13 in the city of Eilat, Israel, among other prizes.
