Peruvian Para athletes head to Tokyo to compete at Paralympics

The first group of Para athletes and administrative staff has headed to Tokyo, opening the way for the Peruvian delegation that will compete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, set to take place from August 24 to September 5, 2021.

This first group consisted of swimmers Dunia Felices and Rodrigo Santillan, who will be the first Para athletes to go into action in the evening hours of August 24.

Wearing the colors of the National Paralympic Association of Peru (ANPPERU) and driven by their dream of giving a good performance, the delegation went first to Miami, New York, and Narita.

ANPPERU Administrative Manager Darinka Gustavsson will be in charge of opening the Peruvian Para Athletes residence at Tower 9 of the Paralympic Village, which was previously occupied by the delegation that competed at the Olympic Games.

The bulk of the delegation will leave on Wednesday, August 18. This group includes Para athletes Efrain Sotacuro, Carlos Sangama, Melissa Baldera, Rosbil Guillen, as well as Para powerlifter Niel Garcia and judoka Freed Villalobos.

The Opening Ceremony for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be held on August 24, 2021 at 6 a.m. (Peru Standard Time).
