20:00 | Lima, Mar. 23.

At the end of 2020, Peruvian exports amounted to US$39.310 billion, with shipments from the mining-energy and non-traditional sectors totaling US$25 billion and US$15.177 billion, respectively, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo said on Tuesday.

According to the government official, by the end of last year, 7,519 companies exported 4,536 products to 174 markets, diversifying the country's supply, and with the United States, the European Union, China, Canada, South Korea, Switzerland, India, and Chile as main trading partners.

"This is the result of a resilient behavior and attitude assumed by Peruvian exporters who managed to adapt to the new situation and maintained the presence of Peruvian products in the world with great perseverance," Cornejo stated.

The minister remarked that, despite the situation, 37 products were included in the ranking of top 10 exports last year, from 29 products in 2019.

It should be pointed out that Peru has cemented its position as the world leader in exports of fresh blueberries, overcoming Chile for the first time.

"In addition, thanks to the increased supply of squid and frozen raw giant squid, Peru moved up two places in the world ranking to become the third largest exporter of these products in the globe," she said.

Trade agreements

The head of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) stated that, to date, Peru has 21 trade agreements in force covering a total of 54 markets around the globe and 41% of the world's population.

"These (deals) cover more than 90% of total exports to the world and represent 81% of the world's gross domestic product (GDP)," she explained.
