Peruvian avocado exports totaled $1.348 billion between January and August of this year—an 8.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025—the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported today.

The Ministry noted that this figure represents an increase of approximately $106 million in foreign sales.

It further indicated that the Netherlands was the primary destination for Peruvian avocados, accounting for 36.7% of the total export value during the referred lapse of time.

Exports to this market reached $492.6 million, marking a 22.9% growth compared to the same period in 2025.

Spain followed as the second-largest destination, with Peruvian avocado exports totaling $266.5 million—a 17.2% increase—representing 19.8% of the total export value.

Together, these two markets accounted for 56.5% of all Peruvian avocado exports.

In terms of volume, shipments reached 719,425 metric tons, an increase of 1.7% over the 707,118 metric tons exported during the same January–August period last year.

The greater growth in value relative to export volume is linked to an increase in the average unit export value, which rose from $1,749 to $1,866 per ton—an increase of 6.7%.

Furthermore, Midagri reported that the monthly performance of avocado exports so far this year has been positive in terms of value for nearly every month analyzed.

January and February stood out, with year-on-year growth rates of 57.3% and 50.6%, respectively.

The highest monthly export value was recorded in June 2026, reaching $247.3 million—a figure 10.8% higher than that recorded in June 2025.

Subsequently, in July, exports remained virtually stable, while in August they reached $206.4 million, representing a year-on-year growth of 9.5%.

The ministry revealed that the primary avocado-producing regions are La Libertad, Áncash, Lima, Lambayeque, Ica, Ayacucho, and Junín. Together, these regions account for more than 80% of national production, driven largely by small-scale producers along the coast and in the Andean highlands.

The inclusion of both coastal and highland regions confirms that Peru has successfully diversified its avocado production geographically, which contributes to greater production flexibility.

Likewise, the increase in production is a result of larger avocado harvests, facilitated by favorable rainfall levels that supported the development of the fruit—destined for both foreign markets and the agro-industrial sector.

This has boosted international sales and generated income that will help improve the quality of life for the families of these small-scale producers.
