Peruvian athletes land in Abu Dhabi

A delegation of Peruvian athletes has arrived in the United Arab Emirates to compete at the Special Olympics' World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.

The Inca country's delegation is composed of 22 athletes who will participate in four disciplines: unified volleyball, gymnastics, swimming, and athletics.

The sports event will take place on March 14-21 and is expected to welcome over 7,000 athletes from 170 countries. 

Peru Special Olympics was created in 1986 and is present in 12 regions. 

It should be noted this organization does not receive support from the State. Thus, it is self-funding.

Its goal is to provide training and athletic competition the whole year in a variety of sports for people with intellectual disabilities.  

Over 8,000 athletes are part of this institution.
