A total of 29 Peruvian athletes are set compete in 11 disciplines to earn medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The opening ceremony kicked off this evening at 20.00 local time and 18.00 (Peruvian time) at the Maracana football stadium.
The first Peruvian athletes —Renzo Leon and Camila del Valle (rowing); Juan Manuel Postigos (judo), Marko Carrillo (shooting) and Fiorella Cueva (weightlifting) will be competing on Saturday.
Renzo Leon, in the single scull category, will be the first Peruvian to appear on the Olympic stage tomorrow at 8.30 hours (Peruvian time).
Camila del Valle comes next in another single scull rowing event at 9.30 hours (Peruvian time).
Judoka Juan Manuel Postigos will step on the tatami at 10.30 hours. He will face Orkhan Safarov, from Azerbaijan, who took third place at the World Cup of this discipline in 2003, in the 60kg category.
The Peruvian, who will be appearing in the Olympics for the second time after London, will participate in Group C. If he wins, Postigos will fight either Abdelrahman Ahmed (Egypt) or Otra Bestaev (Kyrgyzstan).
Later, at 13.00 hours, shooter Marco Carrillo will do his best to advance in the 10M air rifle competition.
Finally, Fiorella Cueva will take part in the women's 48 kg weightlifting event at 17.00 hours.
Peru has grabbed four Olympic medals in history (1 gold, 3 silver).
