In a joint operation against organized crime, Peruvian and Brazilian law enforcement forces carried out Operation Mirror May 2026 in the Yavari River area, Mariscal Ramon Castilla province, Loreto region —a triple-border zone— where nearly nine tons of drugs and weapons linked to illicit narcotrafficking were seized.
The Ministry of Defense (Mindef) —through the Amazon Operational Command and the PUMA Unified Command, together with the Peruvian National Police— coordinated the intervention involving the Mariscal Ramon Castilla Unified Task Force and the Anti-Drug Directorate, as well as units from the Peruvian Air Force, Navy, and the Brazilian Army.
The operations —which will continue to be carried out— yielded the following results over two days.
On May 5, approximately 985 kilograms of drugs were seized, a rustic laboratory was destroyed.
Chemical supplies, weapons, and logistical material used by criminal organizations were confiscated.
One day later, on May 6, authorities seized approximately eight tons of marijuana, weapons of war, ammunition, and tactical equipment.

Likewise, they destroyed a mega laboratory and illegal camps, directly affecting the operational and logistical capabilities of these illicit networks.
Joint Command of the Armed Forces Chief Army General Cesar Briceño highlighted the operational deployment and the results obtained as part of Peru's commitment to combating transnational organized crime.
"Peru, through the Joint Command, reaffirms its commitment to leading coordinated efforts and operations with a comprehensive strategic vision, articulating land, air, and riverine capabilities to confront transnational threats to regional security and the sustainable development of our countries," he pointed out.
Based on guidelines issued by Mindef, these operations demonstrate the Peruvian State's capacity to exercise territorial control in hard-to-access areas by coordinating intelligence, operational mobility, and international cooperation in a joint effort to neutralize illegal economies.
The Joint Command of the Armed Forces, through the PUMA Unified Command, will continue carrying out interdiction, surveillance, and control operations in the Amazon and the Triple Border area of Peru, Brazil, and Colombia, strengthening the Peruvian State’s presence and protecting the nation against criminal threats.
