Ambassador Javier Yepez presented his credential letters to the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in the city of Nicosia.

Held on Friday, June 9, the event was attended by Cyprus' Defense Minister Michalis Giorgallas —he replaced the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was overseas— and other 8 Ambassadors who were accredited to Cyprus.

In his speech, President Christodoulides highlighted the alignment of Peru and Cyprus as maritime countries, as well as the commitment of his Government to promote relations with Peru, both bilaterally and at the community level within the framework of the European Union.

During his stay in Nicosia, Ambassador Yepez held working meetings with senior Cypriot government officials and entrepreneurs.

Thus, the Peruvian diplomat had audiences with the Director General of Political Affairs and the Director General of Global Agenda at the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with whom he agreed on the importance of adding content to the bilateral agenda through the institutionalization of political coordination and the exchange of experiences on the management of public entities.

The Ambassador also met with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, who congratulated the Peruvian initiative to prioritize cultural cooperation with Cyprus.

The working agenda concluded with a meeting with the President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who stressed the possibility of finding niches for greater trade exchange, despite the distance and connectivity difficulties, by committing himself to promote the coordination with Peruvian trade guilds.
