Peruvian Ambassador presents credentials to OAS

13:37 | Washington D.C. (U.S.), Apr. 3.

The new Permanent Representative of Peru to the Organization of American States Jose Manuel Boza presented credential letters to Secretary-General Luis Almagro.

The ceremony took place on Tuesday at OAS headquarters in Washington D.C.

Within this framework, Ambassador Boza stressed that the OAS "is the political forum where hemispheric coexistence and neighborliness come alive, through dialogue, debate, consultation, and cooperation."

"We are convinced that the strength of the OAS lies in the values that unite us in response to the needs, desires, and demands of our citizens," he added.

For his part, Secretary-General Almagro recalled that the OAS' strength is that "it has the institutional capacity to channel multilateral dialogue. These values are embodied in the Inter-American regulations, which distinguish us from the rest of the world as a multilateral organization."

He also took the opportunity to highlight the efforts made by the Peruvian Government in the last Summit of the Americas —held in Lima in April 2018— adding "we must move forward in the outline and proposal that the Lima Declaration has drawn up."

It should be noted Peru was one of the 21 signatory countries of the OAS founding charter in 1948 and hosted the General Assembly where the Inter-American Democratic Charter was adopted in 2001.
