A documentary showcasing the vast Peruvian Amazon will be screened in August at the New Haven Free Public Library in the state of Connecticut, U.S.

"The Peruvian Amazon: A World Like No Other" will be shown as part of a fascinating lineup of film screenings from all over the world.

The informative film, directed by Peruvian filmmaker Felipe Degregori, will be showcased on August 14 at 5:30 p.m.

It is about the journey made by the Henry 9, a ship that transports passengers and heavy load on the route from Pucallpa to Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon.

In addition, attendees will also get to see “Translatina,” another film by Peru native Degregori about transwomen in Latin America.

Furthermore, the library will also be showing Soviet and Syrian films throughout this month. Admission is free to all events, which will be followed by discussions.

Felipe Degregori was born in Lima. He was granted a scholarship by the School of Communication Media of Lomonosov University and traveled to Moscow, where he specialized in Cinema and Television during three years.

He stayed in Europe until the spring of 1975. Upon returning to Lima he started his professional activity in Cinematográfica Horizonte where he directed his first fiction feature film Let Our Comrades Know (Avisa a los Compañeros) and produced over 30 short films until 1979.

Between 1992 and 2000, he directed the fiction films We're All Stars (Todos Somos Estrellas) and City of M (Ciudad de M).

Since 2004 until now he has been engaged in documentary filmmaking at the production company Buenaletra Producciones, where he made the films Translatin (Translatina), Chungui, Horror Without Tears (Chungui Horror sin Lágrimas).

He also made a Peruvian story, Fish from the City (Peces de Ciudad), and medium-length films such as Women from War (Mujeres de la Guerra), and Propagating the Truth (Difundiendo la Verdad).
