The Government of Peru is committed to eradicating hunger across the country, the
Vice-President of the Republic Dina Boluarte said on Sunday, on the occasion of
World Food Day.
"Peru has joined the commitment to eradicate hunger in the world. We work tirelessly for food security," the high-ranking official said in a post on her official Twitter account.
In this regard, Mrs. Boluarte, who also serves as
Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, remarked that her portfolio has increased its 2022 budget by 66% to guarantee the supply of food for more than 14,000 soup kitchens throughout the year.
Regarding the
National School Feeding Program Qali Warma, the Cabinet member reported that a budget of more than S/96 million (about US$24 million) has been allocated to provide food assistance to more than 3,000 community kitchens, which gradually receive food from said program.
This day is intended to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and to strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.
