Two new explosions were registered at Ubinas Volcano —located in Sanchez Cerro province, Moquegua region— on Wednesday morning.

These were followed by ash emission, totaling 17 detonations in this southern Peruvian area since
the early hours of last Tuesday.

The presence of ash is noticed in the towns located near the volcano, such Ubinas, capital of the district under the same name. There, it can be seen that ashes cover the roofs of homes, as well as of this area's streets and square.

It was announced that authorities, Civil Defense representatives, and residents will meet in the upcoming hours to adopt measures to deal with this situation and address the possibility of being evacuated to a safe area due to Ubinas Volcano's eruptive process.

Last Tuesday, the Moquegua Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) issued a statement in which it recommends that the population be alert and permanently informed by volcanological reports issued every day.

Likewise, the COER urged citizens not to come closer than four kilometers from the volcano's crater, to implement prevention and mitigation actions in the event of an increase in volcanic activity, and to consult the Ubinas Volcano hazard map.

Similarly, it recommends covering the nose, mouth, and eyes with facemasks and glasses, and cleaning with plenty of water.

Protecting water sources for human consumption and avoiding exposure to volcanic ash, which is harmful to health, is also advised.
