Peru’s Sotacuro ends fourth at Rio 2016 Paralympics

Peruvian athlete Efrain Sotacuro ended fourth in Men's Marathon (T45/46 category) at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games on Sunday.

The national sportsman clocked a time of 2:55.27.

Coached by Rodolfo Gomez, the national representative  had a great physical training in Mexico. This morning he showed all his strength in the international competition.

The event was won by Chinese Chaoyan Li (2:33.35), followed by Spanish Abderrahman Ait Khamouch (2:37.01) and Portuguese Manuel Mendes (2:49.57).

Sotacuro is the first national athlete in history to qualify for the Paralympic Games’ marathon. The move has been praised by Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

It must be noted he qualified for Rio 2016 at Seville Marathon at the beginning of the year.

Peru has been awarded four diplomas, usually granted to athletes who have finished among the top eight in corresponding events.

Peruvian sportsmen Yeny Vargas (Women's 400m), Carlos Felipa (Men's Long Jump), Israel Hilario (Men's Time Trial) and Efrain Sotacuro have obtained such prizes.

Rio 2016 Paralympics features disabled athletes from 161 countries on September 7-18.
