Canadian Vancouver Whitecaps FC have officially announced the signing of Peruvian striker Yordy Reyna on Monday.

Said club competes in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

After not consolidating as a top striker in Austria's FC Red Bull Salzburg, the 23-year-old will have a new opportunity to relaunch his career outside Europe.

The Canadian team has acquired the Inca player with the use of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). Reyna's MLS contract runs through 2018, with club options for 2019 and 2020.

He "is an exciting, hard-working, young talent, and we are thrilled to add him to our club," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson.

The striker will join the team in Wales —upon receipt of his UK visa— this week, since the club kicks off the preseason schedule with friendlies against English Football League clubs, including Championship sides Bristol City FC and Cardiff City FC, as well as League One outfit Oxford United FC.

The sportsman has defended Peru's national squad 17 times and scored 1 goal.

Previously, he played for Alianza Lima (Peru), FC Liefering, SV Grodig (Austria) and RB Leipzig (Germany).
