Starting at 4:00 a.m. (local time), municipal personnel from Tambogrande district have been working to evacuate families from the southern sector, Huancabamba Street, and surrounding areas affected by the overflow of Piura River, which had reached 1,415 meters cubic per second.
The families affected by said overflow, which occurred during the early hours of Tuesday morning, were transferred to shelters set up by the Tambogrande Municipality.
Supported by Serenazgo (municipal police) agents, their belongings were placed in safe custody, spokespersons for this commune indicated.
Municipality Manager Jorge Cabellos reported that, after the river overflowed in Tambogrande during the early hours of the morning, aid has been allocated to said area.
The official also explained that, in the next 10 hours, an increase in the flow of Piura River is expected due to heavy rains. It is forecast to reach a record of 1,600 cubic meters per second.
According to the official, that volume would not entail any risk of overflow. Nonetheless, in any case, the Bajo Piura area is being reinforced, he noted.
