Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Monday reported that the Ministry of the Interior, through the National Superintendence of Migrations, has banned Evo Morales and other Bolivian citizens from entering Peru.
The move comes as these people have directly affected the regulations of Peru, specifically Article 48 of the Migration Law, which states that people who threaten or disturb internal order cannot enter Peru.
"Citizens can rest assured, a firm and energetic decision has already been taken by the Government for the benefit of life, dignity, and integrity of all Peruvians," Otarola told the media outside the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).
The Cabinet chief stated that the Executive Branch will continue to examine not only the attitude of the former Bolivian president but also of those who have worked with him in southern Peru as they have been promoting a crisis situation in the country very actively.
"He [Evo Morales] will not enter Peru again unless this restriction, which is clearly established in the Peruvian internal regulations, is lifted [...]," he remarked.
"This decision will remain in place until the situation that requires the application of this entire article is modified," the Prime Minister added.
The National Superintendence of Migrations banned nine Bolivian citizens, including former President Evo Morales, from entering the country, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on Monday.
The document states that Bolivian citizens have entered the country in recent months to carry out political activities, which goes against Peru's immigration legislation, national security and internal order.
