The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday morning visited the Bicentennial City project in Lima's district of Ancon.

During the activity, the Head of State was accompanied by Environment Minister Ruben Ramirez, as well as by Housing, Construction and Sanitation Minister Geiner Alvarado.

The project —of a multi-sectoral nature— represents the largest public area available in Lima to develop a city with an adequate planning and management of the territory on a site of 8,000 hectares.

The Bicentennial City comprises a series of national strategic projects, such as the Ancon Industrial Park —the main industrial hub in Peru— as well as a residential zone of 280 ha for 115,000 inhabitants.

Additionally, it will develop the most important intermodal logistics platform in the country, which will alleviate traffic congestion at Callao Port and will be connected to Chancay Port.

Moreover, it will include a 2,000 ha afforestation area irrigated by treated wastewater, which will provide Lima Metropolitan Area with the equivalent of 60% of the public green areas currently available in the city; and the principal Park of Sciences in the country, which will include the development of the National Botanical Garden.

In statements to TV Peru, the top official urged Peruvians to care for the land and environment to preserve them for future generations, as well as to build houses in areas where access to public services can be guaranteed.

"We need to be organized. We cannot have houses just for the sake of it. Access to healthy living conditions must be guaranteed. There is no space to take care of the river in Lima. Look how Rimac and Chillon rivers are," he said.
