The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday affirmed that the second agrarian reform —to be launched on October 3— will enable the Peruvian State to reach out to farmers granting them technology and technical advice.

"Some have understood that the second agrarian reform is to take land away; that is totally wrong; we have to get that out of our heads; that has not even been considered; it will not be done; it would be absurd for a government to do so; that is ruled out," he expressed.

The Head of State explained that the second agrarian reform will serve to promote those issues pending since the first agrarian reform, which had granted farmers land to produce.

"That means getting closer to farmers, that regional and local governments guarantee access roads to reach out to farms, populated centers, and production centers; having the road ready, we must reach out to them with technology and technical advice," he indicated.

Within this framework, the top official said agronomists will be summoned, the formation of a network at the national level with farmers will be promoted to boost seeds for the government to buy their products in order to be distributed among schools and soup kitchens, as well as to invigorate industrialization.

"Let farmers feel that there is a government that cares for them, boosting, for example, crop rotation, water harvesting and —why not— boosting —along with regional governments— water dams," he pointed out.

Private investments

Moreover, the President asked private companies for peace of mind and indicated that decisions go through his office.

"They (decisions) do not go through another person, second or third parties (…)," he emphasized.

The Head of State also said that —following his trip to the United States and Mexico— he has a clearer concept of what private enterprise is, adding that he has seen entrepreneurs' interest in coming and investing in Peru filled with peace of mind.

"If there have been outbursts by the Prime Minister or other people, we will correct them as soon as possible," he concluded.
