13:18 | Lima, Nov. 6.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Saturday affirmed that a physical disability is not an obstacle to exercising job responsibilities and noted that his Government is committed to ensuring the rights of people with disabilities.

In this regard, the Head of State said that he will coordinate with legislators to promote bills aimed at facilitating access to decent work for this segment of the population.

"People deserve respect; physical disability is not an obstacle to exercising job responsibilities. They cannot be discriminated against," he stated.

In addition, the Peruvian leader called for a broader assembly to include people with disabilities from the interior of the country.

"Not only the legal field, but in the Government sector so that they have the chance to be employed in decent workplaces," he said.

The country's top official mentioned that the National Council for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (CONADIS) must fulfill its role and did not rule out the possibility of taking corrective measures in said institution, if necessary.

Moreover, the President reiterated that his administration has prioritized the response to the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent this disease from killing more Peruvians.
