held a phone conversation with Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who was elected President of Venezuela in the aforementioned country's last election.
The Peruvian Head of State expressed his firm support for ensuring that the transition process in the Caribbean nation is completed with full respect for the will expressed at the polls on July 28, 2024.
"The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, held a phone conversation on Wednesday morning with Venezuela's President-elect, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, to whom he expressed his firm support for ensuring that the transition process toward democratic institutional order in that country is completed with full respect for the will of the Venezuelan people, as expressed in July 2024," the Presidential Office reported on X.
Last Tuesday, Peru's top official said that Gonzalez is the one who legitimately should assume leadership of the transition process, following the capture of Nicolas Maduro.
"There is a President who was elected in Venezuela last year; therefore, he is the person who legitimately should assume office once order—still certainly disrupted—is restored," President Jeri told the press.
