The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte highlighted the nine-point agreement reached at the Fourth Meeting of Heads of State and Government of Countries Signatory to the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACT) held in the Brazilian city of Belem do Para.

"The meeting that the eight Amazonian countries had was about how we get to work, since there are already nine points that we have agreed on," she said on Tuesday night.

At the end of said gathering, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that among the issues included in this agreement are: eradicating the felling of trees in the jungle, preventing forest fires, as well as fighting illegal mining and drug trafficking that are causing a lot of damage to the Amazonia.

"Peru has proposed, within the entire conversation held today (Tuesday), that the task of defending the Amazon must be focused on how we serve the human beings who inhabit the Amazonian region," she expressed.

The Head of State emphasized that developed countries should take greater interest in the Amazoniabecause it is important to preserve this area so as to rely on a healthier world in the future.

"Governments, especially industrialized countries, must become aware (of that) in order to work on reducing the emission of pollutants into the air and so that the Amazonia can be preserved, generate more oxygen for us to breathe, and also generate greater development and social inclusion for our sisters and brothers from our communities," she stated.
