Peru's President: Health sector to rely on its largest budget in 2021

14:51 | Lima, Jul. 28.

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday announced that nearly S/20 billion (about US$5.667 billion) from the General Budget of the Republic will be allocated to the health sector in 2021 —the largest investment in its history— so that Peruvians can have access to high-quality health services.

The Head of State said that the budget proposal for such investment will be submitted to Congress before the end of August.

"I am convinced that this Parliament will rise to the occasion to approve this firm commitment to health," he expressed.

The top official stated that the budget will mainly cover the first level of health care (health posts and centers) in order to expand the free-of-charge offer for the benefit of the population.

It also aims to reinforce hospitals with more beds, medicines, laboratories, and personal protective equipment, among others.
