The top official indicated that "we are all aware that the negative impacts of human action on the environment require a sustained effort to maintain a balance between humanity and the ecosystems supporting biodiversity."
Likewise, the statesman affirmed that Manu National Park is not only a conservation area for Peru, but also for the rest of the world.
Mr. Sagasti recalled that in 1971 the idea was raised in Peru for the first time, which suggested that it was possible to develop productive economic activities while conserving the environment with knowledge. This means research and learning about the variety of plants, fruits and animals, followed by conservation and sustainable use.
"These three things were raised years ago, and it is a pleasure for me to see those original ideas which, although they take time to be put into practice, we see in reality," he remarked.
Mr. Sagasti indicated that the proper way to promote the sustainable use of the variety of natural resources requires the coordination of national, regional, and local governments, in addition to the active participation of the private sector, civil society, and international cooperation.
He also reiterated his call to the population to respect health measures aimed at preventing COVID-19 infections and contributing to the vaccination of older adults.
