The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday pledged to unblock development projects to be executed by provincial and district municipalities.

"Let's be honest with the population (about) what you have to do as mayors; let's not promise what you cannot fulfill," he said in an opening speech.

Likewise, the Head of State affirmed that mayors rely on the Government's full support to develop projects which —for various reasons— had been delayed.

The top official said that —given "cumbersome procedures" linked to these projects— mayors have had to "form queues" to be served at the Central Government offices.

"Mayors, you have our full support but prioritizing the most relevant aspect: the population's health," he emphasized.

Furthermore, the President affirmed that there is concern about infrastructure and connectivity issues on which "a lot needs to be done."

Moreover, the Head of State reiterated his administration's willingness to renegotiate contracts that the State has with private companies so as to prioritize Peru's needs.

Mr. Castillo also said it is being proven that dialogue can be established with these entities, in pursuit of benefits for the country.

Remarks were made within the framework of the 2nd Macro-regional Congress of Bicentennial Mayors in the southern port city of Ilo.
