The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, stated that the Executive Branch has secured the necessary resources for the second round of the 2026 presidential election, reiterating that it respects electoral authorities’ autonomy.

"The only action the law allows us to take is to provide timely financial resources, and we have done that. For the runoff, it is practically ready; yesterday (Saturday), we defined the corresponding allocation that was requested," he said in remarks to Panamericana Television Sunday night.

The Head of State emphasized that the Executive Branch respects the independence and autonomy of electoral bodies, which are responsible for all matters related to the electoral process, including addressing alleged irregularities raised by candidates.

The top official added that candidates themselves have the authority to turn to the appropriate legal channels if they deem it necessary.

Likewise, the President stated that the National Elections Board (JNE) is responsible for determining which candidates will compete in the runoff.

Within that framework, he called on Peruvians not to obstruct the process and to participate peacefully in the second round.

"Rather, we must help, engage in dialogue, and talk so that this process can continue," Balcazar said.

When asked about the purchase of F-16 fighter jets, the President said he had to dismiss former Ministers Hugo de Zela (Foreign Affairs) and Carlos Diaz (Defense), since negotiations in which they allegedly participated were conducted in total secrecy, triggering a crisis.
