The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Friday announced that the ringleaders of criminal gangs, extortionists, and murderers captured by law enforcement will be transferred to Challapalca Prison, in Tacna region, considered one of the most secure penitentiary facilities in the country.

This announcement was made during a new session of the War Room, held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

"We had four leaders of Tren de Aragua, now there are eight members of this gang who are already paying for their actions in Challapalca Prison, because this prison is considered one of the most secure in the country. We are ordering that all leaders of criminal gangs, extortionists, and murderers end up in this prison," Mrs. Boluarte said.

In that regard, the Head of State told the criminals that Peruvian prisons "will no longer be centers of operations, from which they used to extort and plan kidnappings."

"We will not allow it; we will take a hard line against these criminal acts they are committing," she stated.

Likewise, the top official referred to the news of the capture of the murderer of Paul Flores, singer of Armonia 10, and called on judicial authorities to act accordingly and not release him.

"Since we announced the state of emergency, we have been taking firm steps and coordinating actions among different actors that will help reduce crime rates," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

"There is much to be done, but our government unfortunately inherited an illegal and uncontrolled immigration that no government had stopped," she added.

Moreover, the President announced that the National Police deployed a total of 3,335 agents, carrying out 540 operations in which 221 criminals (203 Peruvians and 18 foreigners) were arrested, along with 53 who had outstanding warrants.
