The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo has confirmed that the Yanapay (Help) Peru grant —aimed at those families most in need to mitigate the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic— will be paid starting September 13.

"As we previously announced, our priority is to revive the national economy. In this sense, the payment of the family support grant Yanapay Peru —of S/350 (about US$85) per adult— will start on September 13," he affirmed.

According to the Head of State, this measure will benefit more than 13 million people and implies an injection of S/5 billion (about US$1.22 billion) into the national economy.

Likewise, Mr. Castillo noted that around 40,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created.

Temporary employment

The top official also announced an injection of funds to generate temporary employment all over the country.

"In addition, in order to generate temporary employment nationwide, I sign a supreme decree to authorize the transfer of S/299 million (about US$72.9 million) out of the S/700 million (about US$170.8 million) designated to initiate the creation of 260,000 jobs throughout the country," he stated.

The announcement was made on Monday evening during his Address to the Nation.
