Peru's President arrives in Mexico to participate in CELAC summit

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday afternoon arrived in Mexico City, where he will attend the VI Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) this Saturday.

The event was convened by the hosting country's counterpart Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Upon arrival, the President was welcomed by representatives of the Mexican Government, including Foreign Affairs Secretary Marcelo Ebrard and Culture Secretary Alejandra Frausto.


Via social media, the aforementioned Government authorities conveyed welcome greetings to President Castillo and thanked him for his participation in the VI CELAC Summit.


"Welcome, President Pedro Castillo of the Republic of Peru. (We are) very grateful for your presence at the VI CELAC Summit convened by President Lopez Obrador," Secretary Ebrard wrote on Twitter. 


In her turn, Secretary Frausto affirmed that it was an honor to receive the Head of the Peruvian State, "a leader who, walking throughout his country, became president of Peru."

"Welcome to Mexico and to the CELAC meeting, historic summit for the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean," she added.

In addition, during his visit to Mexico, the Head of State will meet with Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Executive-Secretary Alicia Barcena.
