The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday announced the launch of the "Peru en Marcha" (Peru in Motion) strategy —an ambitious economic stimulus package totaling S/520 million (about US$129.2 million).
The announcement was made during his visit to Jauja, a province located in the Andean region of Junin.
In his speech, the Head of State recalled that the indifference of the State has prevented basic services from reaching the population for years and that the COVID-19 pandemic has widened social gaps.
In this regard, he stated that the "Peru en Marcha" (Peru in Motion) strategy will help tackle this situation.
According to the country's top official, a package of works will be implemented through this strategy: 90 water and sanitation projects in urban and rural areas (more than S/390 million or US$96.9 million), as well as 43 projects to improve neighborhoods, roads, sidewalks, parks, and public sport areas (more than S/127 million or US$31.5 million).
The Peruvian leader said that these works will create more than 11,000 jobs and improve the quality of life of 144,000 inhabitants across 17 regions.
Political noise
On the other hand, Mr. Castillo affirmed that he is not worried about political noise, noting that he was elected by the people.
"I have not been elected by the mafia, corruption, or corrupt people. I owe myself to the people, and I am calm, the way people should be. The people deserve respect," he remarked.
