The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday affirmed that the Second Agrarian Reform promoted by the Government seeks to achieve food security and rural development, through the sustainable production of family farming, mainly by small-scale producers.

Mr. Castillo made these remarks during his virtual participation in the World Food Forum organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The Head of State pointed out that the priority areas on which the Government is working include, for example, promotion of cooperativism with a view to increasing production and productivity, integration into markets, and improvement and expansion of hydraulic infrastructure, including ancestral practices of planting and harvesting water.

In addition, the dignitary mentioned the strengthening of technical assistance and training programs, rural industrialization and improved access to financing and markets for small-scale agriculture, as well as livestock repopulation by improving pastures and livestock genetics.

"The Second Agrarian Reform also promotes investment aimed at the youth, women, as well as indigenous communities and peoples, who have been excluded from the benefit of development for too long," he added.

At the same time, the top official remarked that the Government is strengthening social programs to support families with the greatest needs and is working to strengthen grassroots organizations such as community kitchens and neighborhood initiatives.

Moreover, the President commented that more than four million Peruvian schoolchildren are served through the National School Feeding Program Qali Warma and nearly 27,000 tons of food were delivered in the last year alone.

He went on to say that government-sponsored daycare centers of the Cuna Mas program for children under 36 months of age have been reactivated.
