Peru's PM: We will present confidence motion, if necessary

01:00 | Lima, Sep. 30.

Peruvian Prime Minister Guido Bellido on Wednesday evening affirmed that he will accompany Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Iber Maravi during the interpellation session at Congress, noting that he will submit a confidence motion if it is necessary.

"I will join him and, if necessary, we are going to present a confidence motion, just as it should be a Council of Ministers that stands in complete solidarity, because this responds to a political issue, and there is no convincing or substantial matter in this interpellation," he expressed.

The Cabinet chief affirmed that the Labor minister is not questioned by workers, labor unions, or farming communities, but by an obviously political sector, which does not agree with the appointment of ministers by the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo.

The head of the Ministerial Cabinet remarked that it is quite clear who questions the head of the Labor and Employment Promotion sector. Thus, removing the ministers designated by the President of the Republic himself cannot be allowed.

"So, there is no such thing as using a (silver) bullet; on the contrary, it is about defending what the Constitution authorizes the President of the Republic to do," he said when asked about the possibility of submitting a confidence motion.

The high-ranking official noted that instability must not be generated in the country by trying to remove State ministers or the Prime Minister.

In addition, Bellido affirmed that he will absolutely not resign and underscored that his post and that of the ministers are always in the hands of President Castillo and not at the table of political parties that lost in the elections.

He also stated that democracy must be respected, noting that the population already knows who is causing harm to the country, since some sectors seek to create instability.

Remarks were made during a press conference following the Council of Ministers session at the Government Palace in Lima.
