Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Wednesday announced that a state of emergency will be declared in Lima's districts of Punta Hermosa, San Bartolo, Pucusana, due to heavy rains that have triggered landslides and affected the population.

The Cabinet chief affirmed that this measure will allow mayors of said districts to make budgetary changes and other actions in order to protect their neighbors.

The remarks were delivered in Punta Hermosa, where a landslide occurred recently following heavy rains in the area.

In this regard, Otarola explained that the movement of Army engineering machinery to the area will be coordinated to carry out clean-up activities.

"A state of emergency will also be declared in San Bartolo, Punta Hermosa and Pucusana, because their mayors claim to have the financial resources, a budget for civil defense," he told the press.

"So, budgetary changes, item transfers, and a series of measures have been authorized to enable the purchases that may be necessary to benefit the population," the Prime Minister added.

Moreover, he indicated that, due to the rains, various ravines have developed in Ancon, Carabayllo, Chaclacayo, Lurigancho-Chosica, Pachacamac, Punta Hermosa, San Bartolo, and San Juan de Lurigancho.

"State ministers have gone into all these ravines to distribute the aid and coordinate with local authorities," he added.

"What we have to do as a government is to coordinate with authorities, bring the necessary support providing the whole logistics of the State and, above all, take the necessary measures to ensure the health and life of Peruvians," Otarola remarked.
