Peruvian Government respects legal stability and legal regulations, Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez said on Sunday when commenting on the closure of four mining units in Ayacucho region.

"We have always reiterated our support for private investment, mainly for activities such as mining. We have not ordered the closure of anything," she said in an interview with local newspaper La Republica.

According to the Cabinet chief, four mining units have been operating in Ayacucho for several years, and they are already in the process of closure: Alpumayo, Pallancata, Inmaculada, and Breapampa.

Apumayo, she said, is in the final stage of closure; Pallancata will be in progressive stage until December and will enter the final stage starting 2022; Inmaculada will enter the final stage in 2022; and Breapampa will be in progressive stage until 2023.

After recalling that said mining companies set up closure plans according to dates stated in resolutions, she argued that the Government has not ordered any closure.

"What we have said is that the closure stage will be secured in accordance with law, so that it is achieved under the terms set forth in the regulation," she stated.

"And it will apply to these four mines only, and not to other (mining) units in Ayacucho or other areas," Vazquez stated.

In addition, the high-ranking official underscored that closure plans are not living instruments that can be changed over time.
