on Wednesday confirmed that the Peruvian Government established a new nighttime curfew for the provinces under extreme risk due to COVID-19, which will run from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the next day. It also includes mandatory social immobility on Sundays.
During a press conference, the high-ranking official stressed that a slight slowdown is registered in the contagion rate, as well as in the number of related deaths.
"It means that from Mondays to Saturdays, we can perform our work-related activities always avoiding closed spaces or crowds (…)," she added.
Likewise, the Cabinet chief clarified that the recently-announced provisions will be in effect from March 1 to 14. In addition, curfew will be in force all day long on Sundays March 7 and 14.
Bermudez indicated that this effort —for two additional weeks— is to continue lowering COVID-19 cases, but —at the same time— strict prevention measures will not be set aside in order to avoid more infections.
Thus, she called on citizens, authorities, and entrepreneurs to help in this task.
The areas under extreme risk are: Huaraz (Ancash region); Huamanga (Ayacucho region); Canchis (Cusco region); Huancavelica and Tayacaja (Huancavelica region); Huanuco (Huanuco region); Ica and Chincha (Ica region); Huancayo, Tarma, Chanchamayo, Satipo, and Chupaca (Junin region); Metropolitan Lima; Huaura, Barranca, Huarochiri, and Huaral (Lima region); Callao (Callao region); Maynas (Loreto region); Ilo (Moquegua region); Oxapampa (Pasco region); Puno (Puno region); and Tacna (Tacna region).
