Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Wednesday affirmed that for the moment confinement has not been considered as a measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Within this framework, the high-ranking official said the Executive Branch permanently evaluates the evolution of the virus.

Likewise, the Cabinet chief indicated that the adopted decisions seek a balance between people's health and the economy.

"Putting the population under confinement has not been considered for the moment," she stressed.

However, Bermudez said that —depending on the analysis made of the situation and if necessary— an extraordinary Council of Ministers will be convened to address new measures.

"We hope not to reach an extreme situation that forces more severe measures," she added.

Remarks were made during a press conference held in Lima.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Bermudez was joined by Ministers Pilar Mazzetti (Health) and Solangel Fernandez (Housing, Construction and Sanitation).
