Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Thursday called for unity and dialogue to carry out various projects that are necessary for those most in need, instead of continuing a process of political instability.

At a work meeting with provincial and district authorities from Huanuco region —led by the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo— Mr. Torres indicated that these types of meetings serve to be aware of the priority needs of each region.

"District governments, provincial governments, and regional governments have to unite to carry out these public works, provide those services that the community demands, instead of facing this political instability. We must discuss concrete plans for the benefit of large populations," he said.

Likewise, the Cabinet chief emphasized that the central government made important transfers to district, provincial and regional governments to narrow the existing and enormous social gaps, as never seen before in Peru.

"S/8 billion (about US$2.079 billion) have been transferred to regional governments, while provinces and districts have received about S/25 billion (about US$6.498 billion), but this money must be spent. Things are moving in the wrong direction on this matter because some governments have not spent 50% of it," he explained.

On the other hand, the high-ranking official noted that the Government is being criticized for receiving the representatives of the people at the presidential palace, and it has been suggested that the Government should receive top entrepreneurs.

"However, we have to receive the people, too, because the people won the elections, and how can we not receive a winner? That is irrational. We are all equal, and there can be no discrimination for any reason, much less because of people's skin color, because of their economic, social or religious situation," he added.
