With the publication of Supreme Decree No. 039-2025-PCM, which officially calls for general elections on April 12, 2026, the National Government reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the Peruvian democratic system.

This was stated by Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen, who emphasized that the Executive Branch guarantees transparent elections in which the will of the people is respected.

"Through this call (for elections), the Government reaffirms its firm commitment to democracy and its consolidation after years of political instability. Our duty is to ensure that this process is conducted with complete transparency and within the constitutional framework," he said.

The legal provision, published in the Legal Regulations Bulletin of the Official Gazette El Peruano, establishes the call for elections for the President of the Republic, Vice-Presidents, Senators, and Deputies of the Congress of the Republic, as well as Peruvian representatives to the Andean Parliament.

The decree also establishes that if no presidential candidate obtains more than half of the valid votes in the first round, a runoff election will be held on June 7, 2026, between the two candidates with most votes.

Similarly, it stipulates that the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) take the necessary measures to enable the budget for organizing the elections.

Through this election call, —endorsed by the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Economy and Finance Jose Salardi— the Government fulfills its constitutional mandate and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring an orderly democratic transition for the benefit of all Peruvian citizens.
